Last week I went along and helped with a session which was delivered in The Museum called ‘Talk English’.
The session is aimed at members of surrounding communities who’s first language isn’t English. The visitors come to The Museum with their tutors to take part in activities using objects from the collection and the galleries to initiate conversations and help with their learning.
I helped by getting out some specimens from the Zoology and Entomology collections and taking them along to the session, asking visitors if they knew what the objects were, and talking to them about any experiences or feelings they had towards the objects.
It was a really interesting session, where I got to meet lot’s of different people. It was also good to get another idea of some of the work curatorial staff can be involved with.
